SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 03-03-2014 at approximately 1220 HRS the Maine State Police responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash on U.S. Route 2A in Hodgdon.  Investigation revealed 34 year old Maurice Boyce of Hodgdon was traveling south in a 1998 GMC Jimmy when he attempted to pass two vehicles.  After passing the first vehicle, Boyce noticed a vehicle was approaching north-bound in the opposing lane.  Boyce attempted to pull back into the south-bound lane while still traveling at a high rate of speed.  Boyce hit the soft shoulder and lost control of the vehicle, traveled back across the north-bound lane and struck a snowbank, overturning and coming to rest against a utility pole.

Boyce’s passenger, 53 year old Crystal Barnes of Hodgdon, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Houlton Fire Department using the Jaws of Life.  Barnes was transported by Houlton Ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Boyce was not injured in the crash.  Both Boyce and Barnes were wearing their seatbelts and neither airbag deployed.   The vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.

Tr. Nick Casavant was the primary investigator and was assisted at the scene by the Houlton Police Department.
