SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 03-15-14 at approximately 2300 hrs, Sgt. Brian Harris and Tr. Shawn Whalen responded to a report of a tractor trailer crash on Rt 1 in Westfield. Josef Vencek, age 70 of California was southbound on Rt 1 in Westfield and lost control of his 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling a load of paper. Vencek’s truck and trailer jackknifed and then skidded off the opposite side of the roadway, striking a guardrail and skidding backwards off the road over the embankment into a small stream.
Vencek was not injured in the crash and his truck and trailer are considered a total loss and sustained extensive damage. The truck and trailer will be removed from the scene by Brewers Service of Mars Hill.
