A couple wanted in connection with a shooting on Cape Cod, MA was taken into custody after their car was stopped along Interstate 295 in Bowdoin, Maine Saturday morning. The shooting took place in the town of Mashpee, where a man was wounded about 3 a.m.

Maine State Police, assisted by Topsham Police and the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Department, stopped the car about 9:30 a.m.  David Byron, 21,  and Leah Wiinikainen, 22, are being held on fugitive from justice charges. The two were arrested at gunpoint after the car driven by the woman was stopped and the couple offered no resistance.

The two were taken to the Topsham Police Department for questioning and they will be held at the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Their first court hearing will be next week.  Wiinikainen is from Centerville, MA and  Byron grew up in Anson, Maine.

Police throughout New England were looking for the car after being notified of the shooting by Mashpee Police.  A State Trooper first spotted the car traveling north along the Interstate in Freeport. The car was stopped in Bowdoin once police had enough assistance to safely make the traffic stop.
