Distracted Driving Enforcement Campaign

DISTRACTED DRIVING CAMPAIGN BEGINS -- State Police and the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety today launched a four year effort to combat distracted driving. Last year there were 3,111 crashes in Maine including 12 deaths because of distracted driving. Troopers will be using unmarked cars, tractor trailers and overpasses to spot drivers not paying attention to the road. Trooper Duane Doughty and Col. Robert Williams both cited examples of drivers reading, texting, eating, grooming, looking for a dropped cigarette or soda bottle. ONE TEXT OR CALL COULD WRECK IT ALL !! (sm)
