Sex Offender Arrest

NEWS RELEASE from the Maine Department of Public Safety
from Spokesman Steve McCausland - 626-3811

State Police say a man convicted a decade ago of molesting children has now been arrested for possessing child pornography.   Deland E. Small, 60, of Poland was arrested by the Computer Crimes Unit  Wednesday and charged with possessing sexually explicit material.  Small’s arrest took place at a location in North Yarmouth where he works, and he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.   The arrest came after detectives seized his computers last month at his home at 187 Johnson Hill Road and found dozens of images of child porn.  Small was convicted in 2003 of unlawful sexual contact with a child, served jail time, and was required to be on Maine’s sex offender registry for ten years, which ended last fall.
