State Police School Patrols

PHOTO ARE TROOPERS NEAR SACOPEE VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN HIRAM

As part of an effort to increase visibility around schools in Androscoggin, Cumberland and Oxford counties, State Police have conducted a series of enforcement efforts near a number of high schools for the past three months.  Led by Sgt. Michael Zabarsky, these details have been on-going since April and will wind down for the school year with upcoming graduations.  The enforcement efforts took place in the mornings to coincide with school openings and consisted of teams of 4 to 8 Troopers patrolling areas near the schools. The goal was to increase highway safety awareness impacting both students and the motoring public.  Distracted and aggressive drivers were sought out, as well as seatbelt and speeding violations.

Troopers then met with school officials to give them an update on their enforcement efforts and the reaction from school officials has been positive, as well as from the public.

The schools involved are:

·         Baldwin Consolidated School – Baldwin
·         Leavitt area High School – Turner
·         Oak Hill High School – Wales
·         Lake Region High School – Naples
·         Buckfield High School – Buckfield
·         Sacopee Valley High School - Hiram
