NEWS RELEASE from the Maine Department of Public Safety
from Spokesman Steve McCausland -  441-6216 – CELL

State Police say it appears that a Saco family of five were shot to death inside their apartment and all indications are that no one outside of the family was responsible for the deaths. A gun was found near one of the bodies. The bodies were found in their second floor apartment in the Riverview Apartment Complex on Water St early Sunday afternoon.  A friend of the family had called a worker associated with the apartment complex to check on the family after growing concerned for their well-being.   The worker entered the apartment and discovered one of the bodies.  He called Saco Police at 1:24 pm and Saco officers then discovered the five bodies inside in three different rooms.  The man and woman are in their 30s and their children are believed to be 12, 7 and 4.

A deputy state medical examiner arrived at the scene late in the afternoon. The bodies will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta overnight for examination and autopsy on Monday.  A dozen detectives  and officers from State and Saco Police have been at the apartment complex investigating the deaths.

Police were in the process of notifying next of kin Sunday night and the names of the victims are likely to be released on Monday.
