SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

2/20/15   1600 hours Route 1 in Bridgewater (Bunker Hill)
Daniel Thibeault, age 51 of Lewiston, and family were traveling southbound on Route 1 in Bridgewater when his 2014 Toyota Tacoma got stuck in a snow drift at the top of Bunker Hill. Thibeault’s vehicle had just gotten unstuck with assistance from a nearby resident when his vehicle was struck by a 2007 Toyota Corrolla, operated by Brandon Greaves, age 30 of Littleton, who was also traveling southbound and could not see Thibeault’s vehicle due to the whiteout conditions.

One passenger from Thibeault’s vehicle and one passenger from Greaves’ vehicle were transported by ambulance to the Houlton Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Rt 1 traffic was shut down for approximately 3 hours while the accident was investigated and the cars were removed from the scene, causing a long backup of both south and northbound traffic.  MDOT plow trucks were called in to plow the drifting snow from the roadway  in the area and also treat the roadway due to several tractor trailers that were not able to travel up the hill due to the icy roads.
