SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

State Police say a woman escaped with minor injuries after her car was demolished this morning after being struck by a tractor trailer.  The crash took place about 8 a.m. on the turnpike spur near Main Street in South Portland. The car was hit from behind by the tanker truck. The impact then forced the car into a pickup truck.  The tractor trailer, which was hauling gasoline, is owned by Branch Brook Transportation of Arundel and operated by Frederick Smith of Kennebunk, who was not injured.  Smith told troopers he was blinded by the sun. The State Police’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit assisted South Portland Police with the investigation.  The truck driver was not cited.   South Portland Police have other details on the crash.
